Things You Should Know Before Buying a Baby Bag Backpack
When you're a first-time mum, it's easy to become overwhelmed and emotional due to so many things going through your head — What should I bring to the hospital on the day of my labour? Do I need to pack bottles of milk? Should I bring more than one bag? How big does my baby bag need to be?
But the reality is babies don’t need a whole list of items in order to survive. With a few key items in your baby bag backpack, your child will be happy and healthy while you are on the go.
Your nappy backpack bag should have enough space to carry all your essentials and several compartments to keep you well-organised. Your baby isn’t going to have a lot of patience, and having key items handy and ready to go will make life easier for both of you. Here are a few items that your baby will actually need in their bag:
- Blankets — Baby blankets and swaddles are great for keeping your baby warm and comfortable while on the go. Having one on hand can help your young one feel secure in an unfamiliar environment.
- Feeding items — You’ll need to keep a couple of bottles handy. If nursing, you will need a mini-cooler with your breastmilk and a couple of burp cloths for after feeding. For formula feeding, you’ll want to include your formula. Stick a can in the big open compartment if you’ll be out for a while.
- Diaper changing essentials — Wipes, diapers and diaper rash cream can all slide into the pockets of your diaper bag with ease
- Baby clothes — Use your judgement as to what will work best in your climate, but many parents start with onesies, an extra T-shirt and a pair of pants. You’ll be glad to have an extra set of clothing (or two), as your baby will get messy throughout the day.
- Entertainment gear — All these items are optional, but a few great ones to have are soft blocks, books and a couple of rattles. This will keep your baby entertained while you’re on the go.
- First aid — Babies tend to get hurt and sick, just like the rest of us. A few things you’ll want to have on hand are a thermometer, infant pain reliever, nasal aspirator, saline nose drops and anti-gas medicine.
Keep this list of items in mind while you are buying your backpack diaper bag. Many of them have pockets that can separate your items for you. Some even have insulated bottle pockets, so you won’t need a mini-cooler for your bottles.
Also, you may want to look for a backpack diaper bag that has a padded changing mat in it, so you don’t need to buy a separate one. And that big, open space? It’s perfect for your blankets and extra clothes, right next to your formula.
